In 2012, the Owl Conservation Survey commenced an implementation of the Farmland Owl Survey. The survey aims to identify changes occurring in owl populations in farmlands and suburban areas, with particular reference to the Little Owl (Athene noctua) and Barn Owl (Tyto alba). We would like to invite all volunteers to be acquainted with the methodology of the survey and join its work. The more areas examined on an annual basis, the better results we will obtain. The participation in the Farmland Owl Survey consists in triple control of 18 points on a 10 km2 area chosen by the observer. The controls should take place on definite dates and with optimum weather for the owls’ activity. The results of each control needs to be fed into a control’s form, which should be sent in soft copy to the coordinators up to August 31st. Maps can be scanned and sent as well. Registrations to Farmland Owl Survey are admitted c/o mail: krzysztof.kus@sowy.sos.pl until March 25th each year. Before making a decision on joining our programme, please remember that it is assumedly a long-term activity and you would have to perform these controls throughout many seasons.
